As the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF’21) opens June 2-5 in St. Petersburg, the capital of northern Russia, organizers are focusing, among other things, on youth activities. The Roscongress Foundation, the Federal Youth Agency and the Center for Assistance to Young Russian Professionals jointly coordinate both Russians and foreigners, in order to deliberate on major economic and social issues on the platforms that are created for them at SPIEF’21.
Each year, the youth program includes investment sessions, plenary sessions, panel discussions, conferences and open dialogues with young people, government officials, business leaders, as well as foreign experts. Participants, aged 18-35, meet potential partners and like-minded people, share experiences and exchange contacts, as well as practice their business communication skills. With great enthusiasm, they jointly try to find effective solutions to the most pressing challenges of the Russian and world economies.
Young people come from different backgrounds, including young entrepreneurs and professionals, students of higher and secondary education institutions, and leaders and representatives of non-profit organizations.

Representatives of Friends for Leadership, the international network of next generation leaders and entrepreneurs, will participate in the forum. This group is made up of young men and women from different countries and made up of the Roscongress Foundation, the Russian Federal Agency for International Humanitarian Cooperation (Rossotrudnichestvo) and the Center for the International Promotion Fund.
Friends for Leadership, a permanent international pool of next generation leaders, was created with support from the Roscongress Foundation during SPIEF’18. It brings together people involved in the creation and promotion of multilateral economic and humanitarian cooperation projects.
According to Sergei Vershinin, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, international youth cooperation is one of the important areas of foreign policy activities. A certain number of tasks implemented within the framework of the New Generation Program, approved by presidential decree n ° 1394 of October 19, 2011 “On the approval of the concept of the program of short-term study trips of young representatives of the political, social, scientific and commercial states from abroad to the Russian Federation.
The objectives of this program are to strengthen humanitarian cooperation between Russia and its foreign partners, the promotion of professional contacts between young people, the promotion of an impartial perception of Russia and the strengthening of its positive image in the world.
The most promising undergraduate and postgraduate students, as well as young scientists from leading Russian universities and scientific organizations will have the opportunity to attend sessions organized for them.

Representatives of Friends for Leadership regularly participate in events organized by the Roscongress Foundation. In 2019, as part of the New Generation program, 42 delegates from 29 countries participated in a special “Friends for Leadership” session at SPIEF. In January 2020, the session entitled Friends for Leadership 2020: New Horizons in Global Cooperation for Sustainable Development was held on the sidelines of Russia House in Davos, where specific projects and good practices in the fields of social entrepreneurship, of education, technology, sustainable development cities and the promotion of the United Nations sustainable development goals were presented.
In addition to this, the Roscongress Foundation has the SPIEF Junior business program. The program is designed to initiate intergenerational dialogue on a variety of topics – from current business demands for modern education to anticipating skills in demand for the future.

The discussion planned between Russian and foreign students is particularly noteworthy. This open dialogue of cultures will allow young people to exchange views on questions that are of great concern to them: How have education and the world changed since the pandemic ?, What professions will be in demand and how to obtain them? How to respond to global challenges in a constantly changing environment? How do you choose a profession and where to work for the next 50 years.
In the current era of growing global challenges and threats, issues of realizing human potential are of particular importance, and the transformation of education, its meanings and values play an important role in this regard. Participants in this session include education leaders.
