As the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF’21) opens June 2-5 in St. Petersburg, the capital of northern Russia, organizers are focusing, among other things, on youth activities. The Roscongress Foundation, the Federal Youth Agency and the Center for Assistance to Young Russian Professionals jointly coordinate both Russians and foreigners, in order to deliberate on major economic and social issues on the platforms that are created for them at SPIEF’21.
Each year, the youth program includes investment sessions, plenary sessions, panel discussions, conferences and open dialogues with young people, government officials, business leaders, as well as foreign experts. Participants, aged 18-35, meet potential partners and like-minded people, share experiences and exchange contacts, as well as practice their business communication skills. With great enthusiasm, they jointly try to find effective solutions to the most pressing challenges of the Russian and world economies.
Young people come from different backgrounds, including young entrepreneurs and professionals, students of higher and secondary education institutions, and leaders and representatives of non-profit organizations.
“I am sure that the knowledge, experience and practice that young people gain at the International Youth Economic Forum will be fully utilized in their daily and professional lives. These new connections and contacts will spark useful and effective interaction with like-minded people, mentors and other professionals. For our part, we are ready to offer all the tools for their complete and successful self-realization in all endeavors. Active participation and initiative are the engine which, like any other, needs high-quality fuel, ”notes the head of the Federal Youth Agency Alexander Bugaev.

Participation in the Forum offers unlimited opportunities for young people to exchange experiences and acquire new knowledge, ”said Andrey Fursenko, Assistant to the President of the Russian Federation.
Representatives of Friends for Leadership regularly participate in events organized by the Roscongress Foundation. In 2019, as part of the New Generation program, 42 delegates from 29 countries participated in a special “Friends for Leadership” session at SPIEF. In January 2020, the session entitled Friends for Leadership 2020: New Horizons in Global Cooperation for Sustainable Development was held on the sidelines of Russia House in Davos, where specific projects and good practices in the fields of social entrepreneurship, of education, technology, sustainable development cities and the promotion of the United Nations sustainable development goals were presented.
In addition to this, the Roscongress Foundation has the SPIEF Junior business program. The program is designed to initiate intergenerational dialogue on a variety of topics – from current business demands for modern education to anticipating skills in demand for the future.
“The ability to listen and respond to the demands of society is the cornerstone of effective and productive work with the younger generations. You can only shape an emphatic generation ready to meet global challenges by involving young people in discussions on the most relevant socio-economic topics, ”noted Elena Sokolova, Head of the Content Foundation for the Development of Expert and Analytical Activity, the organizer of SPIEF Junior.
The participation of Russian and foreign teenagers makes this gathering of young people unique. This is why its business program aims to generate interest in modern educational technologies and to establish partnerships with peers from other countries.
The discussion planned between Russian and foreign students is particularly noteworthy. This open dialogue of cultures will allow young people to exchange views on questions that are of great concern to them: How have education and the world changed since the pandemic ?, What professions will be in demand and how to obtain them? How to respond to global challenges in a constantly changing environment? How do you choose a profession and where to work for the next 50 years.
In the current era of growing global challenges and threats, issues of realizing human potential are of particular importance, and the transformation of education, its meanings and values play an important role in this regard. Participants in this session include education leaders.
According to the information available, these youth sessions are supported and / or sponsored by Rosneft, Gazprombank, Innopraktika, Yandex, Prosveshcheniye, WR Group Holding and Spar.
