Upcoming food distributions

Feeding San Diego is hosting these drive-through food giveaways:

  • Friday 10 a.m. to noon, North Island Credit Union Amphitheater, 2050 Entertainment Circle, Chula Vista
  • 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. April 19, Pechanga Arena, 3550 Sports Arena Blvd., San Diego

Each registered participant will receive approximately 50 pounds of dry produce, fresh produce and one frozen meat protein. The Bonita Optimists gear up for the bike rodeo

The Bonita Optimists Club invites the community to a Kids Bike Safety Rodeo from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 30 at the Bonita Valley Community Church, 4744 Bonita Road. Local law enforcement officials and first responders were asked to teach children from kindergarten through grade 6 about the rules of the road and other safety precautions. Bring your bike and helmet; free bike and helmet checks. Fun activities for non-riders too. Food for sale by El Tigre Catering Services. All children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Coronado prepares for the flower show

The 100th Annual Coronado Flower Show, produced by the Coronado Floral Association and the City of Coronado, and supported by San Diego County, returns April 23-24 after a two-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The show features landscape exhibits and a variety of floral contests while raising awareness. Visitors can also enjoy live entertainment at the bandstand, food, a beer and wine garden, and shopping featuring local artists and small businesses. Sponsorships are always available; contact [email protected] Show times are 1-5 p.m. April 23 and 10 a.m.-4 p.m. April 24 at Spreckels Park, 601 Orange Ave., Coronado. National City invites cleaning sessions

National City residents are encouraged to register their households at www.joinnatcity.com, using activity 5302, for Community Service Month 2022. Registration closes April 24. Record your cleanup activities (virtual and in-person) and submit your photos by April 29 at www.nationalcityca.gov/CSMonth. The cleanups will culminate with an Earth Day celebration from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on April 30 at Kimball Park with a park cleanup, kids’ activities, and free lunch. Volunteers are needed. Blood drives

The San Diego Blood Bank welcomes these blood donation opportunities. Donors will receive a limited edition t-shirt while supplies last:

  • 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, San Diego County HHSA South Region, 401 Mile of Cars Way, National City
  • 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Probation Department, South Bay Area, 1095 Bay Blvd., Chula Vista
