This is proof of the growing need for credit union services available in these difficult times.
The credit union exists to provide low cost and supportive credit to the people of Annandale and Eskdale, Nithsdale and Stewartry.
The core offering of the credit union is to provide a very low cost lending opportunity, compared to business competitors.
It offers loans up to three times the value of funds held by each member, which is a vital resource, working to reduce the need for other high-interest or short-term alternatives.
Like everyone else, the credit union had to adjust its working practices during the pandemic, however, with an established online membership and loan application facility, it remained open and accessible throughout.
It also moved its offices in 2021, now being based in the Saint & Co offices at 23 George Street in Dumfries.
The credit union is supervised by a board of directors, elected from among the
President Daniel McKeever said: “The increase in membership over the past year only confirms the need for credit unions, providing low cost access to finance in these difficult times.
“In fact, we are perhaps more needed than ever, and I am so grateful to the other Trustees and Anne, our Trustee, for keeping the show on the road through Covid-19.
“2022 promises to be a year of development and growth for Solway Credit Union with a new system and online application giving us more visibility and improving service for our members.
